By Lodha
July 26, 2024Resisting the waves of change & urbanisation, South Mumbai has managed to hold its own against the rest of the city’s rapid evolution. Despite being peppered with high-rises and glass buildings, it retains an old-world charm that transports one to a Mumbai of a bygone era. Nestled in these quaint and well-connected lanes of Lower Parel is Mumbai’s only Trump Tower. The Trump name has for long, established itself as a stalwart of excellence and grandeur in the real estate realm.
One of the luxurious residential projects in Mumbai, Trump Tower follows in the same fashion and is integrated into the heart and spirit of the city. At Lodha, we also have a long-lasting legacy of trust while delivering nothing but exceptional living. The Trump and collaboration with one of the top builders in Mumbai, Lodha has led to a magnificent 78-storey residential project with a dazzling gold façade and world-class amenities like a clubhouse, swimming pools, sporting grounds, gardens, orchards, and much more. Today, we’re looking at a luxury apartment located on the 69th floor of the Lodha Trump Towers to get a glimpse of what it takes to create a truly spectacular space. The Spectacular Spaces series is an ode to extraordinary homes in our developments crafted by India’s leading designers. In the third episode of this series, we explore the spectacular space designed by Behzad Kharas, founder of BNK Group -- a luxury interior design firm in India. This flat in Worli by the BNK Group marries the clients' sensibilities with its standards of perfection and seamless execution.
Putting the ‘Art in the Apartment - Lodha Trump Tower’s Crown Jewel
While it is common for clients to request designers to expand an existing space, the space at Lodha Trump Tower was an anomaly. Kharas and his team were tasked with transforming a 7-bedroom apartment into one featuring only 4 bedrooms. Like the stalwarts that they are, they took to the challenge and how!
Kharas and his team approached the project by treating the floor of the space as a blank canvas. Using a symphony of greys, they turned the floor into a cool foundation upon which they could build the rest of the apartment. They chose tiles in a material that reflects the ample light that floods the apartment, imbuing it with even more warmth. While the team played with plenty of marble, from panda-white cladding to the mint-green bar cover, they ensured that the contrast ratio between different sections was minimal.
However, the team dialled up the contrast while choosing fabrics for the space. From using muted linens to bold suedes, the spectrum of fabrics created a playful colour palette and added texture to the space. Kharas and the team aimed to create little pockets of tactile experiences where the clients could indulge and expose their senses to different fabrics.
The formal living area of this luxury apartment in Mumbai is a sprawling space that connects three different grids of the layout. An inlay runs through the entire space to tie it together and create cohesion. While the apartment opens to stunning bird's-eye views of the city and its skyline, a swing near the windows is a luxury few can boast of. The bedrooms are equally stunning and intentionally designed. Panels behind headboards feature art made using cutting-edge 3D printing. A metallic ripple ceiling above the bed space lends a touch of opulence to the bedroom without overwhelming the space. Featuring a neutral palette of earthy shades, the bedroom is a delicate arrangement of marble and stone in tones of browns, greys, beiges, and ochres.
The formal dining room bridges the kitchen and the utility area. The central focus of the space is a black-and-white abstract art piece. However, the art is more than just aesthetic. Kharas and his team make the most of the space and smart design to convert art into something functional. The frame slides up to reveal a TV unit. The team also chose an elegant dining table with modern light fixtures that complement the marble and muted colours. Kharas prioritised art and light to create a space that emotes with its voice.
This collaboration between Kharas and the BNK Group along with Trump and Lodha is a crossover event that has resulted in a timelessly chic apartment in South Mumbai that caters to the taste of the client and adheres to the philosophies of everyone involved.
